corky's

we went out to dinner with some of daddy's co-workers, and lilly kate! in fact, when daddy arrived i was so excited i asked where lilly kate was. i also made a couple of new friends... one human, and one concrete.

more adventures in potty training

i gave in and moved the little potty upstairs. hannah has been resisting going downstairs to the bathroom, and i have grown weary of the upstairs "accidents".

wouldn't you know that about 30 minutes after moving the potty upstairs (with a towel underneath it just in case), she walked over to it, asked for help getting it open and pulling down her pants, and went pee-pee. dumping the pot of pee is sooo much easier than cleaning upholstery.

she had been doing well with going down when told, but she had taken a step backwards by not wanting to go and then having accidents, so i hope this may actually help her go on her own initiative again.

Something I will not take for granted...

while today has been filled with one toddler challenge after another, I just finished reading Caroline's blog, and how she is STILL fighting the whole sleep thing. I think Emmy and Maddie must be sending some tricks her way, much to Steph an Ashley's chagrin...

and that brings me to this. While my dear friend is hoping #2 will be the polar opposite in sleep patterns of her firstborn, I am hoping that my second child will be just like his/her big sister in the sleep department.

sigh...

When we put Hannah to bed tonight, we found a book in her bed.... with 2 pages ripped out of it.
She didn't press us when we told her we would not rock with her or snuggle extra, so I think she realized she was in trouble. Daddy is promising to move the bookshelf to the guest room if she does it again...

adventures in potty learning continued

So, Hannah has been wearing her training pants and underwear around the house lately. Usually she tries to go potty when told, and occasionally she has told us when she needs to go.

This morning, she had a nice big leak on the couch/throw pillow. Thankfully the throw pillow got the brunt of the wetness (it was twice as heavy as normal), so I took it downstairs to the washer (we're about to find out how washable it is). When I came back upstairs, she was spraying the other pillow with the carpet/upholstery cleaner. The one she didn't pee on. We now have 2 pillows in the wash.

At least she wasn't spraying the stuff in her mouth... she was so proud of herself, too. But that'll teach me to leave cleaning supplies in her reach for a second.

"I cleaning pee!" she exclaimed.
*******
As she ate her snack a little while later, I heard a familiar, "uh-oh, i leaking!"
Sure enough, the puddle was making its way to the floor. So I scooped her up, set her on the potty (better late than never), took off the booster seat and put it in my bathtub. It was in need of a good scrubbing anyway. Hannah heard the noise and made her way from her bathroom to mine, wanting to get into the tub with her booster....

I did let her take a bath in her tub, and as she played with her toys, she asked for her booster. While I'm sure that might have been a fun addition to her bath, she did not get what she asked for.

I'm not too happy with the effect of grape juice on her bladder. She had been doing sooo well lately...

Temps finally broke out of the 30's today, making the weather perfect for a trip to the park.

1st day diaper free

Today is the first day I've dared to keep Hannah in underpants all day... even through her naptime. She only had one accident after dinner, and she just happened to be on her step stool in the bathroom when she "leaked" right through her and made a puddle. I'm losing track of time, but in at least the last 3 weeks, we've changed one poopy diaper. And she is not constipated.
If she's not completely trained by the time she visits her cousin Junanana in a couple of weeks, I suspect Aunt Becca will finish the process if she's ready.

Now to get up the nerve to go out of the house without diaper...

experiments

Today's "science projects":
  • Hannah wanted to plant tangerine seeds in the dirt to see if they'll grow.
  • I showed her ice in the gutter tray, and explained that when water gets very cold it turns to ice. She picked it up and began sucking on it. Don't worry, I didn't let her keep sucking. I told her it was dirty, and she said ,"yucky!"
  • We cut a piece of aloe of the plant and put "lotion" on our hands and lips. We also added some dirt/coffee grounds to the pot because the roots were beginning to show.

Photos and Thoughts

if mommy had put the christmas ornaments away, i wouldn't have this boo-boo.

yummy pasta (and our bib replacement)

chowing down on her first soft taco actually in a shell

breaking in the clean sheets (this is the outfit she picked out herself after naptime, by the way)

"mommy, take a picture!"
(story time in her favorite nightgown)

"cheese!!!" (i know it looks like peek-a-boo. but that's not what she was saying.)

One of the most exciting things for me is that I think on some level, she understands there is a baby in my belly. Tonight she pointed to her framed ultrasound photos on the wall above her bed, and she said, "in mommy's tummy!" She occasionally talks about her brother or sister, or sometimes brother AND sister, and last night after she kicked me in the stomach as I tried to get her to settle down at bedtime, she became very apologetic, lifted up my shirt, and kissed my belly. "I'm sorry Mama. Baby so sweet." I almost felt bad for scolding her for kicking me and not settling down. Almost, but only for a fleeting moment.

spanglish

Hannah-Bear was playing with her toy food this afternoon. She balanced an orange on a spoon, tried to put it in my mouth, and said, "oopey la boca!"

"Abre la boca" means "Open your mouth" in Spanish.

She's also quite taken with my small collection of Spanish videos... Scooby Doo, Toy Story, and Mickey Mouse's "Prince and the Pauper."

1st "class"

today was our first kindermusik class! hannah was a little shy, but i think she'll enjoy it. when we pulled up to the building, she immediately noticed the thespian masks on one of the signs on the building. she saw the ribbons behind the masks and thought they were spider legs. "spider's sad, mama!"

during the class, her favorite songs included the rhythm sticks and jingle bells. she also loved the dancing time, of course.

as we drove away, she begged, "more singing time?!?" hopefully she'll be excited to go back next week.

introducing our fishie

if you read my mommy's blog, you have already seen this. but mommy thought i should get to tell my friends that i'm going to be a big sister soon!

when mommy showed me the picture of the baby in her belly, i had two reactions. "fishie!" and ""oh, how cute!!!"

tonight, during story time, there was a baby in one of my picture books. i lifted up mommy's shirt and pat her tummy. "baby so sweet!"

my cuteness worked... mommy rocked me in the rocking chair an extra 30 minutes after bedtime tonight. she says i won't fit on her lap in a few months, so she's cuddling as much as she can now!

honesty

i was putting on hannah's diaper in preparation for bedtime, and she would not stop reaching down "there".

"what are you doing?" i asked her.
"touching my butt." she replied nonchalantly, as if to imply, "duh, mom."

alrighty, then...
